Community Preservation Act Projects & Proposals
The Community Preservation Committee voted to recommend six projects for funding for FY2012:
Queset Garden Restoration
The Ames Free Library has completed the first phase of the Queset Garden Restoration Plan. Most of the stonework has been restored, planting beds were laid out, planted, and flourish. The Committee voted to recommend funding of the next phase which will restore the stage and to construct ADA compliant access to the terrace and stage areas of the garden.

Oakes Ames Memorial Hall Restorative Work
Constructed in 1879-81, Oakes Ames Memorial Hall is one of five buildings in Easton designed for the Ames family by renowned American architect Henry Hobson Richardson. The building was given to the community by the three sons of manufacturer and congressman Oakes Ames, who was prominent in the building of the transcontinental railroad. The building was designed as a gathering place for meetings, lectures, performances and public discussions. The application for CPA funds is to conduct work necessary to preserve the structure.

South Shore Habitat for Humanity - 12A Highland Street
South Shore Habitat for Humanity was selected as the developer to construct and affordable single-family dwelling at 12A Highland Street. The Committee voted to recommend the grant request from South Shore Habitat for Humanity to assist with the development an affordable single-family home at 12A Highland Street.

Trustees for Reservations - Governor Ames Estate
The Trustees of Reservations is seeking a CPA grant as part of the funding package to purchase and preserve the Governor Ames estate. The Trustees plan to establish and maintain the estate as a community-centered park. Closely associated with the extraordinary collection of architectural and historic landmarks in this part in north Easton, the Governor Ames property would highlight the arboretum-like character of the estate grounds and their close connection to the history of the model industrial village.

Affordable Housing Trust Fund
The CPC voted to recommend the proposal from Easton’s Affordable Housing Trust to fund their FY2012 budget. The Trust works to implement the Affordable Housing Action Plan which provides resources and affordable housing options to low and moderate income residents.

Acquisition of Land off Chestnut Street
The Committee voted to recommend acquisition of approximately 16 acres of land off Chestnut Street for multi-use recreational fields and preservation of open space.
